This is our range of mobile phone wallpapers featuring traditional magic (or "magick") and Hermetic symbols. We've chosen a random selection of symbols for these images, and we are likely to make additional sets in the future with more magic symbols.
In this set, nine well-known symbols are included. Among the most widely recognised is the pentacle, also known as a pentagram. This symbol is often associated with the practise of Wicca or various forms of ritual magic, but also with Masonry and Satanism. Dating back to ancient Babylonica, the use of the pentagram has served many different purposes and it was, unsurprisingly, originally designed to represent a star in the sky. In Wiccan lore, the star is used "upturned" and symbolizes the five elements (fire, water, earth, air and the spirit), while the satanic pentagram in inverted and symbolizes the tripumph of self over matter.
Other featured symbols include the chalice, sometimes used as a symbol of femininity and the water element; the ritual swords, a male symbol that also represents air; and the wand (or the baton), another male symbol that also represents fire. There is also the seven-pointed Star of Babalon, employed by Aleister Crowley and also found in Kabbala. This symbol (or more precisely its seven points) represents seven planets, the seven veils and the seven letters in the name "Babalon". We've also got the Enneagram, a nine-pointed star from the Kabbalistic belief system that represents the domain / sphere of Yesod: dreams, illusions and our moon. What's more, we've included the Monad, a symbol that actually is a combination of signs from Astrology and alchemy. This sign is also designed to resemble the Egyptian Ankh.
Then there is the Seal of Cagliostro, an ominous symbol that deicts a snake, with an apple in its mouth and an arrow through its body. It's used in Alchemy, and it also stands for the letter "Aleph", which in turn represents the union between opposites such as light and dark, or the passive and the active. Finally, we've got the Ouroboros, which is Greek for "tailswollower" - an apt name, considering how the symbol is commonly represented as a snake swallowing its own tail. Originally from Egypt, this symbol represents the Sun, eternity and the spirit of the world, and it also represents Mercury in the realm of Alchemy.
