This page is dedicated to images about the familiar, ominous and perhaps also the most widespread symbols of death in the world: the grinning skull and the infamous Grim Reaper.
Symbols of death are common in most cultures all over the world, since most people sooner or later wonder what’s really going to happen when you die. Does a skeleton man, dressed in a black cape and carrying a scythe, come and collect your soul, after reminding you that your time has run out by showing you your hour glass? Who knows? Classic art of the reaper man was very popular in Europe during the Black Death. The Grim Reaper was considered to be just and fair, since he didn’t care if you were old or young, rich or poor.
If you happen to visit the Czech Republic, a really cool place to go is Cutna Hora, which is a church decorated with thousands of skulls and bones. If you are into Goth, and ever consider to get married, this is definitely the church for you. (That is of course, if you can/ are willing to enter a church…)
If don’t have the possibility to go to the Czech Republic to watch Cutna Hora, you can read about the Grim Reaper himself. Terry Pratchett, author of the Discworld book series, has written several books which have Death as the main character. The books are really cool and hysterically funny, so if you haven’t read them yet, we warmly (or coldly, depending on how you see it) recommend them.
Here are a collection of some various illustrations of Skulls and the Grim reaper, ready for download to your cell phone. If you want to, you can also send the pictures to a friend.
