| If you like manga and anime and also are into vampire stories, this is a movie for you! The movie "Vampire Hunter D" is directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri and is based on the manga novels by Hideuki Kikuichi.
This is a story about a young girl named Charlotte who is about to get married against her will to the dreadful vampire Count. She desperately seeks help and after attacking a lonely wanderer (with a whip!), she finally has found herself a worthy protector. The character "D" is a dampiel, half vampire, half human and promise to help Charlotte against the vampire Count and his followers.
I really enjoyed watching "Vampire Hunter D", it is a traditional love story, but with cyber horses, plasma rifles, a lot of blood and a twisted story. The pictures are really nice, with extremely low colour scheme, but with cool details. Also the script is good, based on the novels, the idea of a stranger vampire hunter that sorts things out is very appealing. Like the "Blade"- movies, but better. The music is the movie is a minus, but on the other hand, cinema theme music during the 80-ies weren't the best, I guess. On the other hand, small cool details, like "D" sword or his talking left hand adds to the movie.
You are going to like this movie, if you like movies like "the Crow", "The nightmare before Christmas" and "Spirited Away". |
