So, has anyone read the book "Bridget Jones Diary"? If you have, try to imagine the main character (who is obsessed with her weight, her looks and her single status) and imagine the same kind of character waking up in the morgue as a vampire and with her first mission: To try to regain her stolen shoes!
"Undead and Unwed" is a hilarious book about this girl, "Betsy" who turns into a vampire. But instead of transforming to a bloodthirsty beast, she wakes up and is still worried about cellulites, the latest fashion and her hair style. And, on top of everything else, she suddenly finds herself being dragged into vampire politics, since she might be the prophesied Vampire Queen!
Betsy is a complete anti-hero, a former secretary with a shoe fetish, who thinks that the vampire world is full of clichés (and she is right of course, since the main bad guy calls himself "Nostradamus" and is always wearing a tuxedo). The author's ways of describing Betsy (who's real name is Elisabeth Taylor, unfortunately), the other main characters and the plot is very well performed, especially the way Betsy is reasoning and is talking to herself, which makes her very alive (no pun intended).
If you are looking for a vampire novel, which doesn't claim to be realistic or serious, but instead will give you a lot of laughs, then this is the book for you! And when you have finished it, there are three more books in the Undead-series to sink your fangs into. |
